Butterfly Left Butterfly Right

Feeling Blue? Go Green! encourages children to play, protect and participate in nature activities and environment youth social action, which will lead to conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment. Whilst access is open, we specifically target children and young people with ADHD as we feel this project will highlight their strengths and initiative, give them regular activities to look forwards too and release pent-up energy, nurture their social and teamwork skills, and give them a sense of belonging and a chance to shine and lead.

Many children with ADHD identify to having low moods, anxiety, and/or depression. It is well-researched that nature and ‘green’ engagement support emotional well-being. Breathing fresh air and spending time in nature can raise levels of oxygen in your brain, which in turn boosts the levels of serotonin and feel-good endorphins, a neurotransmitter that alters your mood.

This project will thread a connection among children and young people who share a borough, green and play spaces, shops, yet may have never exchanged a word due to inter-cultural differences, and socio-economic disparities. The collective responsibility of conserving our environment and cleaning our shared spaces gives children a joint mission and harnessing this power can really build a cohesive community.

This project has several components:

1. Less Screen More Green: We will offer a weekly gardening club each Sunday for a small cohort of 18 children referred due to having complex emotional needs.  Children will plant a range of flowers and vegetables in raised garden beds and take pride and ownership watching their seedlings flourish.

2. Junk Modelling Workshops: The joy of creating something out of nothing will include guided crafting and junk modelling and engaging 50 children on a weekly basis.

3. Social action Campaigns: Youth-initiated park cleaning, conservation, and reducing waste awareness videos, workshops, as well as exciting trips to the natural environment and community events.

Feel Blue? Go Green
" I was terrified of falling into the same black whole that swallowed me last winter. The park cleaning and spending time outdoors in the daylight kept me afloat literally! Thank you! – Estelle, age 16 "
