Less Screen;
More Green

Nature Inspired

Excessive screen time is a significant challenge for many parents, especially those with children who have behavioral difficulties. At a picnic discussion with young people (YP) attending our services, many expressed a desire for more outdoor activities. They reported a lack of private gardens or fear of using communal ones due to older youth and gangs.

In response, children formed groups to create a campaign plan, and the winning idea was "Less Screen, More Green."

Our project includes:

  • Competitive Gardening: Raised bed gardening sectioned into units, tended by different teams.

  • Monthly Park Clean-Up Squads: Regular community service activities in local parks.

  • Community Garden Improvement: Installing nature-themed play equipment and opening the garden to the public each Sunday.

  • Creative Junk Modelling/Crafting Club: Weekly sessions turning junk into magical creations.

  • Guided Nature Visits: Trips to safaris, beaches, gardens, and nature reserves to explore unique plants and animals.

"The guided nature visits are my favorite part of the project. I've learned so much about different animals and plants, and it's fun to explore new places with my friends." - Simi age 14

"Participating in the 'Less Screen, More Green' project has been amazing! I love tending to our garden plot and seeing the plants grow. It's a great way to spend time outside and away from screens." - Sarah, age 12
